On the evening of yesterday (3), the Federation of Muslim Associations of Brazil (FAMBRAS) attended the 53rd anniversary of the United Arab Emirates National Day, which took place at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Brazil, in Brasília. The event also celebrated the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Brazil and the UAE.

Mohamed Zoghbi, president of FAMBRAS, was present and honored the UAE by presenting a plaque to the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Saleh Alsuwaidi.

In his speech, Alsuwaidi highlighted that Brazil is represented by a prominent community of over 13,000 Brazilians who call the UAE “home.” “Furthermore, since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1974, exactly 50 years ago, our two nations have worked with dedication, creativity, and strategic vision to promote peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development,” he concluded.

The Director of the Department of Africa and the Middle East at Itamaraty, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, emphasized that over half a century of diplomatic relations, cooperation between the two nations has yielded significant results, translated into a common agenda of shared interests and initiatives that benefit both societies.

“We have expanded our political, diplomatic, economic, and commercial ties. In 2019, we established a strategic partnership that includes areas such as peace and security, economic cooperation, energy, tourism, culture, and sports. The frequency of high-level relations is proof of the trust between our countries and their desire to maintain solid and lasting ties,” Duarte continued.

After the speeches, the attendees had the opportunity to watch a video highlighting key moments of the UAE Embassy’s activities in Brasília throughout 2024. Then, they enjoyed a generous and delicious dinner with traditional Arabic cuisine dishes.
