FAMBRAS holds Solidarity Iftar for over a thousand homeless people

Last night, (03), the Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil – FAMBRAS held a Solidarity Iftar for people living on the streets. With colorful tables and full of flowers, the breaking of the fast took place at the Boraceia Complex/Welcome Workshop Center, in Barra Funda – which shelters and serves these individuals and is maintained by the São Paulo City Hall.
The event brought together about 1300 homeless people. With this action, FAMBRAS wanted to show Islam’s concern for people who are hungry or living in a state of social vulnerability. “There is a saying of Prophet Muhammad that inspires us: ‘He is not a believer who sleeps satisfied while knowing his neighbor is hungry.’ This is why, on this day, our breaking of the fast was with them,” said Ali Zoghbi, Vice President of FAMBRAS.
This was the fourth dinner offered by FAMBRAS at the Boraceia Complex. It was supported by the Municipal Secretary of Social Assistance and Development (SMADS), APOIO, the Mutual Aid Association of the East Region, and the companies Água Frescca and Korin Foods.
Representatives from Korin were present to honor the event. Representing the company were President Edson Matsui, General Director José Rafael Borrelli Falco, New Business Manager Charles Fudaba, Sales Representative Daniel Tannus, Marketing Director Mariana Nagata, and journalist Danilo Matheussi.
The event also saw the presence of Councilor Manoel Del Rio, one of the founders of APOIO; Sheikh Dr. Antar Al-Ashry, head of the delegation of Sheikhs of Awqaf in Brazil; the representative of the Consulate-General of the United Arab Emirates, George Ramos, and former federal deputy, Antônio Goulart.
In addition to all the people and companies involved in the Solidarity Iftar, a team from Bom Dia São Paulo, a local news program broadcast by TV Globo, recorded the event. Reporter Fernanda Carvalho spoke with Ali Zoghbi, Vice President of FAMBRAS, volunteers, and dinner guests.
