Immigrants and refugees benefit from Halal beef protein as part of the “Juntos Por Todos – Contra Fome” Project (Together for All – Against Hunger Project)
Approximately 800 families of immigrants and refugees were benefited with the delivery of Halal animal protein, organized by the Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil – FAMBRAS and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, on September 2nd. The social action took place at the Islamic Youth League of Brazil (Mesquita do Pari), in the commercial region of Brás, Sao Paulo – SP.
Those included in the “Together for All – Against Hunger” Project were divided into two groups, with 400 people instructed to collect the donation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the remaining recipients from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Elderly people, women with infants, and people with physical disabilities were also part of the group receiving Halal beef from Minerva Foods, a partner company in the initiative certified by FAMBRAS Halal.
The president of the organization, Charif Neto Charif, assisted in the delivery and emphasized the importance of the action. “We serve almost 30 nationalities at the Islamic Youth League. These people arrive from their countries in search of better conditions but encounter difficulties. We, either due to our geographical location, being close to Guarulhos Airport, or our role in exercising citizenship, are sought after for all the needs that these immigrants and refugees have”.
Abdel Mjid, a work technician, mentioned that he and his family feel welcomed by the gesture. “This is the first time we are being benefited by such an action. I am very happy because providing a protein-rich meal is what I most want for my family. This food is more than necessary”, said Abdel, who also took the opportunity to thank the organizers of the initiative.
“I have a home to take care of and children to raise. A donation like this is very important to me because I am a housewife. So, I will prepare the meat with great care, very well done; make rice and beans to accompany it and ensure that my family eats in the healthiest way,” said the housewife, Maria Ngonde, while receiving the donation from Ali Zogbhi, vice-president of FAMBRAS.
In addition to Ali Zoghbi, the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates, Abdalla Yousif Abdalla Shaheen, and his representative from the Consulate of the United Arab Emirates in Sao Paulo, Amro Mohamed El Sayed Ali Awad, participated in the action. Collaborators from the FAMBRAS Group and volunteers from the Islamic Youth League of Brazil also carried out the deliveries.
