In a letter addressed to President Joe Biden, FAMBRAS expresses strong condemnation of the conflict in the Middle East and warns about the rise of Islamophobia

The document was delivered today (31) directly to the United States Ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, who pledged to deliver it to the American leader

The Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil, as the representative entity of Islam in the country, delivered a letter today (31) to the United States Ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, addressed to U.S. President Joe Biden, addressing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. In the document, signed by the president of the organization, Mohamed Zoghbi, various issues concerning the Brazilian Muslim community were raised. One of them, as could not be otherwise, was a strong statement of repudiation for the conflict, which has been victimizing many innocent people, especially children. “It is inconceivable to accept that a conflict that could have been resolved long ago – and which had a plan approved by the United Nations in 1947 through Resolution 181 (which deals with the creation of the State of Israel and the State of Palestine) – continues to be systematically disrespected by the State of Israel with the support of a large part of the international community,” says the letter.

FAMBRAS based its repudiation on the fact that the preservation of life is a fundamental and non-negotiable premise for the Islamic religion. And that the preservation of peace, as well as social justice, are also defended by Islam.

Emphatically, FAMBRAS also warned about the concern over the growth of Islamophobia and recalled its work, carried out for 44 years, to clarify what true Islam is and to combat prejudice against Muslims. “Any group that commits violent acts using Islam as a justification can never be called Islamic … Unfortunately, often reinforced by the media and the entertainment industry, the narrative that Muslims are enemies and act violently has been reinforced in recent times. And in contexts such as the current one, it gains even more strength.”
