The “Distribution of 100 tons of Dates in the Federative Republic of Brazil and neighboring countries” project was launched in São Paulo
With the support of the King Salman Center for Humanitarian Aid from Saudi Arabia and execution by the Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil – FAMBRAS, the “Distribution of 100 tons of Dates in the Federative Republic of Brazil and neighboring countries” project was launched on the afternoon of this Friday (01) in the city of São Paulo. Promoting solidarity and providing food assistance to needy communities are the goals of this action.
The first event took place at the Islamic Youth League of Brazil (Pari Mosque), in the Brás region, in São Paulo. In total, approximately two thousand people, including followers of the Islamic religion and refugees who frequent the central region, were contemplated with the delivery of date packages, which took place from 1 pm to 3 pm.
One of the beneficiaries, teacher Junia Ribeiro, mentioned that the event is good for promoting welfare and the congregation of cultures. “This project is very valuable because, regardless of what is being delivered and the quantity, many people already feel assisted.” She concluded by saying that “it is a very important fruit for us Muslims, that gives strength and vigor, so I’m happy to know how significant the action is.”
For Ali Zoghbi, vice-president of FAMBRAS, the distribution brings a new chapter to the humanitarian and social relations between the Saudi government and Latin American authorities. “By starting the execution of this great project, we show thousands of people that the sum of efforts, the gathering of people, makes a difference in that reality, especially if there is a need on the part of those who are inserted in that context.”.
In addition to the Brazilian locations that will receive the project, another 12 countries from South and Central America will benefit from the date delivery. They are Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Guyana, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Various nations in other parts of the world receive the action and are contemplated by this same project of the entity from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“The distribution of dates occurs in various countries around the world. It is an important mission of a humanitarian nature. This is the first date distribution project in Brazil and Latin America,” explained Basheer Saleem Al Sharari, director of the food department at the King Salman Center, when discussing the distribution.
During the event at the Pari Mosque, Dr. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Althumairi, operational director, and Suhail Al Ansari, third secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Brazil, also participated on behalf of the saudi entity. In addition to Ali Zoghbi, FAMBRAS was also represented by the directors of projects and institutional relations, Delduque Martins, and international programs, Ahmed Khalaf.
Also participating in the action were the president of the Islamic Youth League of Brazil, Shariff Neto, and board members – essential presences for the success of the action – and Antonio Goulart, former federal deputy, and Rodrigo Goulart, city councilor of São Paulo.
About dates – According to experts, dates are very nutritious. They are rich in minerals – iron, potassium, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, calcium – as well as vitamins such as A, C, and B complex. Regular consumption contributes to strengthening the immune system, preventing anemia and neurodegenerative diseases, and alleviating stress, among many other benefits.
