Translation of Tunisian author’s masterpiece relaunched during Global Halal Brazil

A masterpiece launched in 1377, the book “Al Muqaddimah” by the Tunisian Ibn Khaldun has been given a new Portuguese translation. The book was officially presented to the public on the first day of Global Halal Brazil and was sponsored by FAMBRAS, the Federation of Muslim Associations of Brazil, and the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.

As Dr. Jamil Iskandar, Professor of the History of Medieval Arab Philosophy at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, pointed out in the book’s preface, “this masterpiece written centuries ago continues to have a significant and lasting impact on the understanding of social sciences, history and sociology. The ideas and concepts presented by the Tunisian Ibn Khaldun continue to inspire and guide scholars, helping to shape our knowledge of civilizations, social change and the nature of History”.

Ibn Khaldun worked as a writer, astronomer, economist, historian, Islamic jurist, Islamic lawyer, and Islamic scholar. He was also an outstanding Islamic theologian, mathematician, military strategist, nutritionist, philosopher, social scientist, and statesman.

During the event, copies of the book were presented to the Secretary of the Embassy of Tunisia in Brazil, Kaiser Khadhraoui; the Honorary Consul of Tunisia, Rubens Hannun; Professor Jamil Iskandar; Paulo Penteado de Faria e Silva Neto, great-grandson of the first translators of the work, released between the 1950s and 1960s – Lebanese immigrant José Khoury and his wife, Angelina Bierrenbach Khoury; and Marcelo Cipolla, responsible for revising and updating the translation of the book.
