World Cleanup Day: Action at 24 de Março School Focused on Preserving Planet Earth

Approximately 120 students from “24 de Março School”, participated in “World Cleanup Day” on the 16th. The operation was organized by the Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil – FAMBRAS and provided mini-lectures on the occasion, as well as various workshops for the students of the institution. Federation collaborators, parents, and teachers also joined the initiative.

Students from various classes at the school listened to a lecture emphasizing good habits and the care that humans should have for Planet Earth. The topic was presented by Delduque Martins, Director of Projects, and Institutional Relations at FAMBRAS. Following this, the pedagogical coordinator of the institution, Elaine Cristina Santos, gave a brief explanation about neurotransmitters, also known as chemical messengers of the brain.

After the explanations, the students were divided into four groups of about 30 participants each for the workshops. Each group worked on a neurotransmitter; dopamine, associated with motivation and focus; oxytocin, linked to well-being; serotonin, responsible for mood and happiness; and endorphin, which deals with effort and overcoming challenges. Elaine Cristina provided further insights into the chemical compounds.

“Dopamine works our reward system. That’s why the mandala and charcoal drawing. In oxytocin, students demonstrated joy and love in caring for the earth through the garden. Others discovered that the sun is the largest source of serotonin, as they painted stripes in the parking lot. And some opted for endorphin, practicing physical exercises in the sports court”, pointed out the coordinator, who also presented the workshops.

For Delduque Martins, the moment shows that the children and teenagers are well engaged in the environmental and social agendas present in the ESG Agenda (Environment, Social and Governance), a policy adopted by FAMBRAS and FAMBRAS Halal. According to him, the younger audience already understands the importance of good actions for life on Earth, including human life, and the survival of the planet.

“This date is experienced in various countries, and actions are taken by everyone, including children and teenagers. It is hopeful to see and know that these students are moving towards the ESG Agenda, to protect the Earth, with all its resources. At home, at school, in public spaces, wherever there is commitment, there is a difference! And for the better”, emphasized Delduque Martins.

Happy to participate in the workshops, seventh-grade student Murilo Otávio Barboza e Silva made an invitation to everyone. “We should dedicate ourselves more to taking actions like this. Today, World Cleanup Day was very special for me because my friends and I were able to help, even if just a little, to improve the health of the planet. Earth is our home! Everyone should take care of it”, said Murilo.

The workshops were conducted by teachers and staff from “24 de Março School”. Collaborators from the FAMBRAS Group also assisted throughout the entire initiative.
